Ricardo Simões Becomes INATBA’s New Executive Director

The International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA) today announced it has selected Ricardo Simões as its new Executive Director, following former-ED Marc Taverner’s decision to return to the private sector.

As its Executive Director, Simões will work to ensure that INATBA continues its growth as the global convener of the blockchain ecosystem, bringing together the representatives of the public and private sectors, with the credible support of powerful advisory bodies. The Academic Advisory Body currently has 53 members representing 48 academic institutions from 19 countries. The Governmental Advisory Body currently has 34 member governments and supranational organisations from 28 countries, chaired by the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, co-chaired by Abu Dhabi Global Market and the European Commission.

Since its launch in 2019, INATBA has established itself as the pre-eminent convener in the global blockchain ecosystem, offering developers and users of distributed ledger technology (DLT) a forum to interact with regulators and policy-makers with the overarching mission of bringing blockchain technology to the next stage. As a global trade association, INATBA focuses on promotion of sustainable and high-impact use of blockchain.

“Ricardo will bring a strong experience in business development of non-profit structures like INATBA and will certainly support the association in its future growth in line with our previous priorities and actions,” said Nadia Filali, chair of the INATBA Board of Directors and Head of Blockchain Programs at Caisse des Dépôts.

Simões joins INATBA at a crucial time when the association recently underwent restructuralisation of its working groups, streamlining its focus on six core topics: education, finance, identity, privacy, social impact and sustainability, and standardisation, which align closely with the work of its Governmental Advisory Body. In 2022, INATBA brings closer the collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“My ambition is to enhance INATBA as a leading global association. Our daily goal is to make INATBA indispensable for our members by keep converging Blockchain and DLT businesses/projects, Public bodies and Academia across the globe into a leading pathway of innovation, sustainable development and prosperity. I’m thrilled to embrace that journey,” said Simões.

With an international career dating back to 2004, the former Executive Director for the Portuguese-French Chamber of Commerce brings a strong experience in organisation management, business and membership development, and achievement of strategic plans in alignment with an organisation’s vision.
